Who am I ?

My name is Abhijeet Anand (Hindi: अभिजीत आनंद, pronounced as UH-B-h-ee-J-EE-T aa-nun-d). Abhijeet means "victorious" in Hindi and Sanskrit. It is also the Sanskrit name for Vega. I am currently a postdoc fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, working with the Dark Energy Survey Instrument (DESI) team. Previously, I was also a bridge postdoc at Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (MPA) in Garching, Germany. Before that, I was an IMPRS PhD student at MPA Garching, Germany. I graduated with PhD in Astrophysics from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Jul 2022. My research was supervised by Prof. Dr. Guinevere Kauffmann and Dr. Dylan Nelson. I finished my BS-MS in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, in July 2017. I also worked as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore from Sep 2017 to Jul 2018.

I am from a small village of Champaran, Bihar, India ( Fun fact: the same district where Mahatma Gandhi started the final phase of the Indian independence movement and acclaimed writer George Orwell was born). I grew up in Bettiah and Patna (the capital city of Bihar and also one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, see this), where I finished my schooling at St. Xavier's High School (up to class 10th) and DAV Public School (for 10+2). Bihar is also the land of Buddha and the greatest empire India had in the past, the Maurya Empire. The ancient city of Vaishali of Bihar is considered one of the first examples of democratic republics in the world. The place prides in it's heritage, such as Nalanda, the center of ancient Vedic tradition.
