Volume rendering of the HI fraction (left) and ionizing radiation field (right) in the Thesan-1 simulation. The top and bottom plots show the time evolution of these quantities, with the moving circle
representing the time shown in the renderings.

Volume rendering of the gas density overlaid with a transparency mask to only visualize regions with significant ionizing radiation in the Thesan-1 simulation. The initial flickering highlights the burstiness of radiation output from low mass galaxies. As reionization progresses the radiation field permeates throughout the Universe and gradually reveals the complex large-scale cosmic structure.

Volume rendering of the neutral hydrogen gas density overlaid with a transparency mask to only visualize regions with significant ionizing radiation in the Thesan-1 simulation. This view shows the patchy ionization structure of the intergalactic medium before the completion of reionization. By the end of the movie only self-shielded high-density filaments remain unionized.
