Hi Pablo,

I would say that you should either go with the boundary particles (you
have to set those up yourself in your IC file by giving those particles
an ID of 0) or with periodic boundary conditions. If the latter then you
actually have 2 shock-tube experiments (one in the center of the tube
and one where the low-density gas is wrapped into the high-density gas)
so you have to make the tube sufficiently long so those shocks have not
met each-other at the latest time you want to have information about the
shock tube. I would vote for the periodic boundary conditions as the
easiest solution, as you only have to accurately specify the
-DLONG_X/Y/Z values as required and make sure that the tube is long enough.

Note that Gadget does not do 1-D simulations out of the box so without
any extra coding you will have to do the shock tube in 2-D (with the
-DTWODIMS flag) or 3-D. Boundary particles will by required here in the
x- and y direction or the x, y and z directions respectively (unless the
shock tube is sufficiently large so the "evaporating" along the edges
has not reached the region of interest by the end of the simulation).
