I am an Astronomer working as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for Astrophysics (MPA) in Garching/Munich, Germany, in the group of Simon White. My main research interest is our beautiful Milky Way galaxy and all the processes that have shaped its appearance.
- How is the matter in the Milky Way distributed? If we knew the shapes of the invisible halos in which galaxies are embedded, this would help us to understand the mysterious dark matter better.
- What is the relation between a star's age, chemical composition and the orbit path on which it moves in the disk of our Galaxy? Even though we cannot look into the past, such observations could help us to reconstruct how the Milky Way was built over time.
- What is the effect of bars and spiral arms on the appearance and evolution of disk galaxies? By studying the the motion of stars, we can also learn about the strength and shape of these perturbers.
