The Galactic Faraday depth sky revisited

This page contains the reconstruction results of the paper Hutschenreuter, Enßlin 2019 (accepted by A&A, arXiv:1903.06735)

The results are provided as a hdf5 file. See here for information about the hdf5 file format and here for its python interface.

There are six files provided under the terms of the ODC-By License v1.0.:

faraday_sky_w_ff.hdf5: Contains the mean and the standard deviation of the reconstructed Faraday sky constrained by free-free data.
components_w_ff.hdf5: Contains the mean and the standard deviation for the component fields of the Faraday sky according to the model defined by Eq. 20 in the paper.
The exponentiated epsilon field is also the reconstructed free free map.
correction_factors_w_ff.hdf5: Contains the mean and the standard deviation for the noise correction factors of the Faraday sky according to Eq. 11 in the paper.
faraday_sky_wo_ff.hdf5: Contains the mean and the standard deviation of the reconstructed Faraday sky not constrained by free-free data.
components_wo_ff.hdf5: Contains the mean and the standard deviation for the component fields of the Faraday sky according to the model defined by Eq. 8 in the paper.
correction_factors_wo_ff.hdf5: Contains the mean and the standard deviation for the noise correction factors of the Faraday sky according to Eq. 11 in the paper.

All files have hdf5 groups for the respective sky maps. Each group again has two hdf5-datasets containing the mean and the corresponding standard deviation. In case of the noise corrections it also contains a group for the respective positions on the Galactic sky and a group containing the original data of the Oppermann catalogue. Some data points are not publicly available and therefore are NaN in these cases.
All maps are presented at a HEALPix resolution of Nside=256 and are stored in RING ordering scheme. In case of the Faraday sky, the units are rad/m2, the component fields are unitless.
