Scientific Rationale
The Near Infrared Background contains observational signatures from both the local and high redshift Universe. Knowledge of the NIRB levels is essential for understanding how galaxies evolve and for probing sources that are inaccessible to direct detection. Significant progress has been made in recent years, both on the observational and the theoretical fronts. This workshop seeks to bring together NIRB experts to discuss the latest observational developments and their theoretical implications in terms of galaxies near and far, foreground emissions, dispersed starlight, and previously undiscovered populations. The meeting is intended to facilitate the dialogue among the different branches of NIRB science. This includes the mean NIRB flux, unresolved fluctuations, and gamma-ray absorption studies. We will have dedicated time slots for discussing different models and how to reconcile them with measurements. We also hope that this meeting will clarify future direction of the field.
