Proton Transfer in Dimeric Water

The original 16mm film was produced in 1969 at the IBM Research Laboratories, San Jose, California, and is propably one of the first films of its kind. It shows the proton transfer in dimeric water. The electron density contour lines are based on ab-initio Self Consistent Field calculations. To produce the film the density was calculated for different positions of the proton. Polaroid photos were take from the density plots displayed on the operator console that was made available at night for this purpose. Finally, the film was produced using about a thousand photos. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Dr Enrico Clementi who suggested to produce this film.
