Catalogue of Gas Phase Metallicities

Summary

This catalogue contains estimates for 12 + Log O/H obtained from the model fits discussed by Brinchmann, J. et al 2004, in press for MNRAS, Brinchmann et al (2004) and Charlot et al (2004 - in preparation). See Tremonti, C. A., et al, 2004, in press for ApJ, "The Origin of the Mass--Metallicity Relation: Insights from 53,000 Star-Forming Galaxies in the SDSS" for details about these determinations and comparison with the literature.

About the catalogue

The catalogue contains all 261054 galaxies we have examined in the DR2. The metallicities are however only calculated for the 62133 galaxies which have S/N > 3 in Hbeta, [O III]5007, Halpha and [N II]6584 (see the paper for details). The other galaxies have metallicities set to 0.0. Please note that this is still a superset of the galaxies discussed by Tremonti et al, and we only guarantee that the valuse for 12 + Log O/H for galaxies within the selection region discussed by Tremonti et al are reliable.

O/H values

• oh_res.fit.gz. FITS file containing the results for 12+Log O/H. The columns are as follows:

    MEDIAN - The median of the likelihood distribution for 12 + Log O/H
    P16    - 16% c.f. level of same
    P84    - 84%
    P2P5   - 2.5%
    P97P5  - 97.5%
    MODE   - Mode of likelihood distribution - discrete so binning
             sensitive.
    AVG    - Average of distribution - somewhat binning sensitive

   PLATEID - SDSS Spectroscopic plate ID
        MJD - MJD of observations
    FIBERID - Fiber ID of observations
      CLASS - The classification of the object (1=SF, 2=Low S/N SF,
              3=Composite, 4=AGN, -1=Unclassifiable)
    P16    - 16% c.f. level of the likelihood distribution for 12+Log O/H 
    MEDIAN - The median of the same
    P84    - 84%
